The Etchells

In 1966 the International Yacht Racing Union (IRYU) were looking for a new three-man Olympic class keelboat. Elwood Widmer Etchells, also known as Skip, heard about the search and having built and raced Stars for many years, was interested in designing a boat for the IYRU.

The Dragon was the result of a competition held by the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club (RGYC) in 1927. The RGYC wanted to find a boat that young people could afford and which could be used as a weekend cruiser on the lakes and fjords in Scandanavia.

The Daring was designed by Arthur Robb and was first launched in 1960. Robb based the design of this elegant boat on his successful 5.5. metre yacht which had won silver at the 1956 Olympics in Australia.
